Joseph Lukose (Luka)

Joseph Lukose (our Dad) was his second son known as Luka (Grandchildren called him Vallliya Pappa). Our dad after his High school at Chavara Mannanam HS, was a tutor. After this role for a brief period, he went to Madras now known as Tamil Nadu State to become a priest. After nine months he decided this was not a role he would pursue for his future.

Thereafter in 1943 he went to Bombay (now known as Mumbai) enrolling himself to study and train as a Wireless Radio Operator. After completing his studies, he joined the British Royal Navy in this role and went to UK and actively participated in the Second World War sailing even to the coasts of Japan battling the enemy.

Joseph Lukose (Luka)

After the war in 1947 he joined the Kuwait Oil Company as a Wireless Radio Operator serving the Company until 1969. In between in 1948 he married our mother Josephine Vayalil (Vayalil family of Punnathara) and together they raised three children Elsy, Peter and Georgy.

In 1969 after returning from Kuwait our dad together with his brothers was in the business of pharmaceuticals both retail and wholesale in the heart of the nearby Kottayam town. He finally retired in 1976. Our Dad like his own father was a strong-willed and resilient human being who stood by his principles.

Family Origin

The Elekkattu family has deep roots in Kerala, India, with a rich cultural heritage influenced by the Knanaya community. The family's traditions reflect both the broader Syrian Christian heritage of Kerala and the unique customs of the Knanaya lineage.
